It's Been A While...

since I've written a post, but I have read all of your thoughtful and supportive comments and appreciate them immensely!

My mini hiatus is a result of my working on a new blog that's a bit more personal and a tad less restrictive. The new blog will be much more near and dear to my heart...

I am a vegan (99% of the time; the other 1% is spent as a vegetarian) and I purchase and use cruelty-free products, so I would like to integrate my views and feelings on on these topics into a new blog...

I have also been itching to include some more personal info and events that may not fit into a forum with the word "design" in the title. That way the only "niche" I will be filling is related to my life's experiences...

Hopefully you find it enjoyable...I have just finished up the design and plan to post soon...here is the link for a little preview: My new blog

Taking A Step Back

Hi Friends,

I realize that I have been MIA for the last two weeks and I feel that filling you in is absolutely necessary. When I started my blog, I thought that certain aspects had to mimic other larger, popular blogs, in order to succeed. The attempt at advertising, sponsoring, Saturday link party, incessant commenting on other blogs, and exhausting myself to create a post four or five days a week in the midst of all of my other responsibilities really started taking the joy out of blogging. What I have realized, however, is that my idea of a successful blog is not the ability to make money from it; instead, it's the ability to grow as a writer, as a person, and to find and share inspiration with other like-minded people.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate my readers and the joy and support I feel from every comment. And I find it so utterly amazing to think about the fact that we are all so unique, with varying backgrounds, and from all different walks of life, yet we are still able to find a commonality through our writing. Thank you for your unwavering support, even during my writing slump.

I am happy to say that I am back, but this time it will be sans link party, any advertising or giveaways, and with fewer posts. Taking a step back and simplifying my blog and writing habits will be more beneficial for everyone involved. I can't wait to get started again and will be creating a new blog to chronicle all of the adventures to come!

My First Magazine Article!

Some of you may have noticed that I have gone on a (temporary) blogging hiatus. This is mainly due to the fact that I have been sooo BUSY working on other projects. Namely, a company-related project that required my undivided attention all weekend (including very late nights), which is why Social Saturdays was not posted. In addition to that, I was asked to contribute some writing pieces to a local magazine, owned by Akers Media Group. My articles, thus far, will be fashion oriented, and I have the very first one to share with you. Yay!

It is titled "How to extend your summer wardrobe into fall" and it is chock full of practical information on how to do just that! Here is the link to the article: http://issuu.com/akersmedia/docs/hl_1011/61. I hope you will read it and let me know what you think! The layout is superb and isn't the model so beautiful?! I certainly thought so. And, in case you would like to see more from the magazine, you can click the cover below and search inside for more great reading!

One word to describe this amazing autumn apple crisp from Collecting The Moments: YUMMY! I love me some apple crisp and this looks delicious! Stop by her blog for the recipe.

This idea for ghost lights from That's What Che Said is so cute and creative!  I especially love the grumpy ghost over there in the corner. See him?? He's so ugly he's cute! :)

Painted Flower Pots Revealed (Finally)

So, yeah, it took me forever to post these photos (oops!) but I hope you think the outcome of the B&As is worth the wait. You may have read my Reader Help: Outdoor Flower Pots post back in July about my client commissioning this job. Basically, she didn't have any design preferences or any color biases, aside from her disliking pink and purple. She did have a plaque, acquired in Mexico, of which she was particularly fond, and thought that I could use it for inspiration. Most artists would probably do a little happy dance in their heads upon finding out that they had free reign when it came to design and color selection. However, for me, it proved to be the biggest challenge!

I started with a spray on primer and then used Apple Barrel Paint. I mixed a custom color almost every time and always made a big huge mess....

Figuring out the design that would tie them together took time. In the beginning I wanted to do something different for every pot, but they didn't look very cohesive.

Believe me when I say that almost every one of these posts had been re-primed and re-painted at least once!

Did I mention that the pots are heavily textured, so that also made them difficult to paint? Yep.

What's the most challenging painting project you have ever experienced?

This one is on my top 10 list! :)

 Here are the B&As...Enjoy!

Do you like them? Have a favorite? Let me know!

Thrift Store Goodies

I went thrift store shopping with Mom this weekend and scored a bunch of adorable dresses (one of which I think will be my Halloween costume) plus a super cute skirt. I had to share them with you because they were such a steal! Take a look for yourself and let me know what you think...

I love this colorful, floral dress! It's perfect for spring and summer, but I think I can transition this piece into fall with a chunky knit sweater and a pair of leggings. The tag says "$8.99" but I found out, much to my surprise, that a purple tag meant half off! Yep, I only paid $4.50 for this little cutie!

I love the comfort factor associated with this dress. The fabric is flowy and drapey in all the right places, plus it has pockets that are perfect for keeping hands warm. It's missing the belt, but for only $4.50, I think I can find a cuter belt that would compliment this piece perfectly. Score!

This cap sleeve frock is just right for meeting with clients. Adding a belt to this one would also lend some pizazz to an otherwise plain black dress. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the gold around the buttons...but that should be a simple fix. Another heck of a deal for only $4.50!

I got this adorable skirt at a thrift store that was having a .99 cent clothing sale! Wow! I only paid .99 cents! I love the graphics on this one and definitely foresee myself wearing it a lot.

And last but not least, I have the dress that will probably become my Halloween costume (I'm such a dork when it comes to dressing up for Halloween). I've decided that I will be a flapper and my hunny buns will be some sort of gangster/zoot suit wearing chap from the roaring 20s. I thought the drop waist, loose fit, and the sparkly neckline would be the perfect canvas for my costume. A little fringe, some long beads, and voila!

Have you picked your costume yet? Tell me! Tell me! I'm dying to know what you're plans are for Halloween!
